What I'm Wearing

Since today is Pink Saturday, it only makes sense to wear pink, LOL. Ok, it's not like I need an excuse to wear pink ;).

Today I am wearing a pink maternity shirt with black polka dots, khaki wide-legged crop pants, and a white three quarter sleeved cardigan. I'm pairing that with my black ballet flats, a white Louis Vuitton bag with multi colored logo design, a multi-strand beaded bracelet, diamond tear drop pendant and matching earrings.

We are going to be out and about running errands and grocery shopping this afternoon. Then hopefully go for a swim either later today or tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!

New Pictures

As promised, here are some new pics!

Hugs,

Southern Ladies

I may live in the Midwest now, but if you are raised a Southerner, you are always a Southerner, no matter what your address is, lol.

~You always wear real pearls, and have been known to wear them to
the gym.

~You know how to entertain, and all your parties have themes.

~You cross your legs at your ankles.

~You believe that if you can be ready to leave the house in less than 30 minutes, you probably shouldn’t be leaving the house at all.

~You always clean your house before going on a trip, just in case you don’t come home.

~You monogram everything.

~You know that no matter how old you are, your father is “Daddy” and your mother is “Mama.”

~You would stay home before you wore white shoes or linen before Easter or after Labor Day. Also, you would never wear velvet before Thanksgiving or after Valentine’s Day.

~You only use a straw to sip a mint julep, during
an illness, or when you have a Coke in a can.

~You follow up everything with “Bless your heart.”

~You know that if you are chewing gum, you’d better be underneath the
bed with the bedroom door closed.

~You love sweet tea, red velvet cake, black-eyed peas, fried okra, turnip
greens, and cornbread.

~You have to have your stuff—Brighton, Arthur Court, Vera Bradley, Pink Monogram Clogs, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Lilly Pulitzer, and Burberry.

~You think of yourself as either Scarlett O’Hara or Melanie Wilkes.

Hugs,

What I'm Wearing

***Disclaimer: The views expressed in this and all future posts about clothing or modesty are simply the views of *my* family, and are not intended to be any sort of expert opinion. Each person has to decide what their standards are, and that is between that person and Our Heavenly Father. I am careful when choosing what to wear because I do want to be modest, and I am also a girly-girl who likes to wear pretty things.***

I have decided to start a new feature on my blog called "What I am Wearing". It's a topic of conversation that has been coming up a lot within my circle of friends. I think so many of us struggle with finding the balance of wanting to be modest and Christ-like in our appearance, and yet we want to feel attractive and feminine and pretty. I don't think that those two things have to contradict each other. I think that often we think of "attractive" and think "sexually attractive", which of course does contradict modesty. But we can be attractive in the sense that roses are attractive...pleasing to the eye and yet not drawing attention to ourselves in a suggestive manner.

Choosing what to wear when you are pregnant is such a challenge! Especially when you are trying to keep your outfit modest, but then also like preppy and cute fashions- oh, and it's summertime! I have seen quite a few adorable maternity tops, but so many of them are sleeveless or have very shortsleeves, and I personally do not feel comfortable with that. But I have been able to find pieces that I can put together into outfits that I think work. I like to think outside the box abit, rather than just purchase things that are labeled as "maternity". Doing this has allowed me to find a greater variety of options, and still stay relatively comfortable (as comfortable as one can be at 6 months pregnant and having three boys under 4, LOL).

Today I have an appointment with my midwife, and then this afternoon we are attending a homeschool group get-together. So I am wearing what I would call a "Mom on the Go" outfit of a denim knee length skirt, orange plaid button down shirt, and a three-quarter sleeved white cardigan (oh how I LOVE cardigans!). I'm pairing that with pale yellow canvas slip-on tennis shoes, my taupe Dooney & Bourke handbag, and woven headband, and accessorizing with diamond stud earings, a double stranded pearl bracelet (who says you can't mix diamonds and pearls ;)), three stone past, present, and future ring, and my gold Crucifix necklace.

I'll try to remember to ask Rick to snap a picture of the outfit actually on me, lol. I suppose someones been a little camera shy lately...

"I Put My Good Face On, Mommy!"

I would like to think our family is not weird, but unfortunately that is just not the case.

Jacob has always had a special way of coming up with sayings that become part of our family's vernacular. And here is one more example of just such a saying...

Whenever Jacob realizes that he is not really doing the right things, or has an attitude problem, he will say, "Ok, I took my bad face off and I put my good face on now." The funny thing is that he seems to actually understand that there is a visible difference in his facial expressions when his attitude isn't particularly good, because his good face really is sweet, and his bad face, well, let's just say you can tell what sort of mood he's in just by looking at him, lol.

So now,"good face" and "bad face" have integrated themselves into our every day lives. He even goes through the motion as if he is taking off a mask and putting on another one. Too cute.

This morning he told me that he has taken off his bad face, and he has his good one on now. Oh, and Joshua is now picking up on this, too. He says he has his good face on, but let's just say that I'm not convinced, LOL.

Hugs,

Thankful Thursday

Good timing as usual, God. :) It always seems that Thankful Thursdays comes at just the right time. Just when I am feeling frustrated or overwhelmed or tired or cranky...Thankful Thursday comes around to remind me how wonderful my life really is. It seems to work like clockwork every week. Hmmmm, I wonder if it was planned that way?

I am thankful that I am going to a class this evening (embroidering tea towels :)). I am thankful for my husband who is so supportive and is encouraging me to take some time to do the things that I love doing.

I have been working on organizing my closet this week, and while it has been a bit of a thorn in my side, I am thankful to have enough clothing to need to organize it. I know that we are blessed with an over abundance in so many areas, and there are so many times where I start to forget that, or maybe just not realize it quite enough.

I am thankful for coffee. Yes, I know that sounds silly, and I know that coffee is not particularly good for you, and that you aren't really supposed to drink it, or at least not more than one cup, when you are pregnant. BUT, I am thankful for that simple little pleasure that is such a bright spot in my mornings. There is something so therapeutic about that warm beverage combined with the amazing taste of the hazelnut creamer, and especially about drinking it in the quietness before waking the boys up. It is a few minutes of heavenly silence where I can just gather my thoughts for the day. Taking a minute to drink my coffee forces me to just stop for a moment, and it is sort of like hitting the pause button on my day.

I am thankful for our new stroller. Before the new stroller, it was a little (ok, a LOT) daunting to think about taking the boys out by myself. Our old double stroller was so difficult to maneuver that it was basically more harm than help. We had a decent single stroller, but, well, Joshua is a bit, um, easily distracted. And walking anywhere with him takes quite a bit of direction. He tends to just wander off, totally oblivious to where he should be going, because he caught a glimpse of something more interesting. So he takes constant supervision. It was a bit stressful to try and walk through a parking lot with both Jacob and Joshua walking and trying to push a stroller and carry a diaper bag...So this new stroller is a HUGE help. It is so easy for me to push, and it maneuvers like a dream. It is a little on the wide side, but that is to be expected when you are talking about a stroller that can seat two toddlers. I like that the seats will hold up to 50lbs, too. Our boys are so big, and most of the strollers had a 40lb weight limit (and Joshua is coming up rather quickly on that number, yes, I realize that is absolutely HUGE for a two year old).

With a Thankful Heart,

We have lost control...

What happens when a bear gets his paws on a container of baby powder?

Let me back up...Joshua was playing quietly in his room so I could I finish ironing just one more shirt...maybe a little too quietly. So I walk down the hallway towards his room and notice the strong aroma of baby powder. Hmmm, why does it smell so nice in here? Oh, no, the BEAR! So I walk into his room and am confronted by a cloud of white powder, and a bear, covered from head to toe. (Oh how I wish I had gotten that picture!!!!) Ughhhh, there is baby powder EVERYWHERE!

So after getting him cleaned up, I come downstairs to find the dog with a piece of paper in his mouth. Can you guess what he was chewing on? The listing of obedience classes at our local PetSmart. I wonder if the classes accept bears as well...

I think I need a nap, or a large, no make that VERY large cup of really good coffee. And maybe some icecream. And tacos.

Shaking my head in dismay,

Which is weirder...

that my boy dog has an obsession with pink My Little Pony toys (seriously, he steals them and then carries them around the house), or that in a house full of boys we actually own pink My Little Pony toys????

Just thinking...

Story Time at the Library

This morning the boys and I went to Story Time at our local library. The boys had so much fun, although Jacob was a little shy about participating. There was a puppet show, and a movie, singing, and several books all about crocodiles. At the end there was craft time, and the boys made crocodile hats.

The boys are already asking to go again next week!

The outing was my first chance to test drive our new double stroller. We have had several of the tandem double strollers before. The first one fell apart, and the second was nearly impossible to steer and push, and eventually became unusable. We finally decided it was time to make an investment in a better stroller, and we decided on one that is a totally different style, with the two boys sitting side by side. It is a jogging stroller, and I found it to be much easier to maneuver.

This afternoon I have been making calling cards. They are sort of like business cards except with our personal information on them. I thought that would be nicer to have on hand, rather than scribbling down our phone number on a scrap piece of paper. :)

Well, I am off to finish marinating the London broil for dinner, and then upstairs to work on my closet.

With Love,
