The Family Mice

Well, ok, they aren’t really mice. They are guinea pigs. But no amount of saying that will convince Jacob. They are mice and they will probably always be mice.

We gave Jacob and Joshua guinea pigs after we moved, because we had to leave behind our two dogs. We aren’t really ready to take on the responsibility of training a dog right now, with a new baby, and a new house, and preschool. But guinea pigs seemed like a pefect fit.

We named Jacob’s “mouse” Buddy, because Jacob is our little buddy. And Joshua’s “mouse” is Rascal, because, well, if you knew Joshua, it’s pretty self explanatory. I’m sure that when Joseph gets a little older we’ll get him a “mouse” too. They have been good little pets for us.

The Neighborhood Cat Mommy

The first week after we moved here, this cat just showed up on our doorstep. Now, let me just say that I am not a cat person, but apparently the mother in me just couldn’t not feed her. Well that was about 6 months ago, and she hasn’t left. I mean not at all. She is either on our front porch or in our attic. I am not sure how she gets in there, but she cannot get back out. We then have to open the attic door and she walks down the ladder into our arms. This tends to happen at least once a day. If she is not in the attic, then she is watching us through one of the windows in our house. She follows me from window to window across the house. No matter where I am, she can find me. It is rather odd really. I have never heard of a cat acting like that, but like I said, I’m not a cat person so I could be wrong.

Apparently the cat community has been talking (can they do that?) because a second cat started showing up fairly regularly and a third every so often. How did I become the neighborhood cat mommy? Again I say, I don’t even like cats. But yes, I named the second cat also. So now we have Frannie (Nini) and Lucy.

So now every evening the children look forward to feeding Nini (Frannie’s nickname given to her by Joshua) and Lucy. I suppose I will have to learn to like cats.

Vet Appointment and Preparing to Move

Princess had her annual check-up this afternoon. She weighs nine and a half pounds...so she's a little overweight. I guess she just wanted to be like the rest of the family. :)

It's our last weekend in this house. We're going to be busy taking apart as much as can and finishing packing. I am nervously excited.

I think the plan is that Mom is coming Monday, and that afternoon Rick will load boxes onto the u-haul truck. The movers will be here Tuesday morning, and I am going to go over to the new house and paint Jake's bedroom. I really hope everything goes smoothly.

Princess was so well behaved at the vet. She sat so quietly in my lap, even when other dogs came in. She sat so patiently even though we had to wait over an hour. Jake got a little restless near the end. He was tired and ready for a nap. Princess even walked on a leash, which she had never done before. I was really proud of her.

Happy Birthday Princess!

Today is Princess' first birthday! We took her to get a "Sneaky Pete's" hotdog with saurkraut (her favorite), and she had gourmet doggie bones with icing and sprinkles. We also had a cake. We gave her a new rope toy as a present.

While we were at the mall we bought Jacob's special "first Christmas" ornament. It is silver with his name engraved in it. We also bought him a silver train with his name engraved.

On Saturday we went to Toys R Us. That was an experience. It was unbelievably crowded and a mess. We waited in line for over an hour, but we found everything that we were looking for.

Kindred Spirits

It is really funny that a dog can be so much like her owner! I don't think there has ever been a dog as girly and prissy as Princess. And she lives up to her name, expecting the best of everything. Spoiled and loving it! (both of us ;))
