A Sister Sewing Blessing!

Today was Sister Sewing, and it was such a huge blessing! The ladies had asked if they could help me with sewing dresses. I have been needing to sew maternity dresses but with having been sick, and then now facing terrible morning sickness, I have fallen behind. So this was such a blessing! We finished three dresses, and have four more cut out, ready to sew. Even just having them cut is a huge help. That is the hardest part for me when I do not feel well.

It felt so amazing to have that help. This is the first time we have really known what it is like to have a real "community". My sisters here are just amazing!

  1. That is amazing. 7 dresses! I still wear my maternity dresses but you can't tell.:) Does your church allow prints? We can wear subtle two tone, but most often solids and I am fine with that. Even with making our own dresses, the temptation is there for all the lovely fabrics out there.

  2. Oh I know, I was so excited!

No, our church only allows solids. I agree about the temptation with fabrics, there are so many pretty ones out there!

I was able to find some lovely solid fabrics at a really great price at Wal-mart, so that was very nice.

  3. Congrats on the new baby! I hadn't heard! Wonderful!
I have bought a lot of solid broadcloth for dresses, but when I got home and held it up to the light......it was very thin. Is your material broadcloth? 100% cotton? In East TX the humidity is sweltering. No one wear 100% polyester. Our Walmart fabric closed, but we have Hobby Lobby for fabric. I have also ordered from Lehman's a poly/cotton blend.

  4. Donna,
Thank you! We are very excited for a new little blessing!

Our Wal-mart fabric section is also planning to close :(, then we will have to go into a bigger town to buy fabric.

The fabric I bought is a mix, some is 100% Polyester (although it is surprisingly light) and some is a Poly/Cotton blend. Most here wear Polyester.

    Blessings,

  5. The Wal Mart closest to us discontinued their fabric. I had not bought any for clothing there in a long time. The fabric faded terribly. The best selection for me is at a little place in Kalona. I do not have to scrounge finding something suitable. Is Kalona overly far for you? But I think you told me there are Amish settlements close to you?

  6. I am not sure how far Kalona is from us, I will have to look into that. We do have Amish communities in Versailles and Jamesport, and one that is very close by but is not large and does not really have shops. Fabric in Jamesport tends to be expensive though, I think maybe because the town has become much of a tourist attraction.

I definitely agree that Wal-mart fabric is not the best choice. This time around I was in a hurry for fabric though, because I had gotten a call on Saturday afternoon that they would be helping me with sewing on Tuesday, lol. So we had to hurry to find what we needed.

    Blessings,

  7. Oops! I said I bought fabric from Lehman's but it's Gehman's! Both are great stores! Donna

  8. Oh Congratulations. I didn't know you were pregnant. That's such wonderful news to hear.
I've just been told that I am going to be a Grandma. I'm so excited. This is my first one by my oldest son and his beautiful wife. My other children are excited to be aunties and uncles.

  9. I am a conservative christian who used to cover, but doesn't any longer. I still wear skirts and dresses and believe strongly in modesty. I had someone help me sew one dress and then I made tons. lol. They were cape dresses. It took about 2 days to make one. So nice that you had help. One thing about plain churches is that they have a great sense of community!
